What you should know about Amanda Cox
Initially they continued to work out of two separate offices but the logistics of this was impractical and in the spring of 2009 they moved to an office in Parnell, in an old converted wool warehouse near the port. The building was great but the parking was atrocious and so another move was eventually necessitated. My interest began when I was a nursing student, working in the acute admissions psychiatric ward in Palmerston North. My first paid job as an RN was in Wellington working with long term mental health inpatients and helping them to integrate into the community.
After travelling to the UK and working for both private and public healthcare systems in mental health and oncology, I returned to New Zealand and spent the following six years working in medical recruitment, specialising in placing nursing staff into mental health employment. As part of my Masters internship I worked at a well established counselling and psychotherapy centre in Epsom. Alongside my study I also worked at AUT as a group clinical supervisor for mental health diploma students, as well as tutoring students studying first level psychology papers. This was a valuable experience and I loved working with the team there but after 2 years I went on maternity leave and had my first child.
I now work in general practice providing psychotherapy services for individuals and couples. I think New Zealand is a beautiful country and I love roadtrips with my husband and kids I am no stranger to a tent but these days I appreciate my creature comforts more than I used to. I initially worked as a crisis counsellor for a community agency, followed by several years working with specialised counselling services including addictions and anger management. I then moved into general practice in the not for profit sector working with mainstream issues such as depression, anxiety, and relationship counselling. Since 2008 I have worked in private practice and I now divide my time between individual counselling and psychotherapy for men and women, and relationship marriage counselling for couples.
I love roadtrips with my wife and kids and I can’t get enough of the New Zealand outdoors. I occasionally find time for some surfcasting or fly fishing, although in reality the fish usually outsmart me but it’s a nice excuse to stand somewhere scenic and enjoy the view. I am a registered psychotherapist PBANZ and a member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors NZAC . If you would like further information before making your decision we also offer an optional free 20 minute meeting prior to commencing any therapy that allows you to come into the office and meet with either of us in a confidential setting and ask any further questions, as well as simply getting a chance to meet face to face and get an idea of who we are.
