Archifact architecture and conservation ltd were engaged to undertake the preparation of reports providing consideration of the exceptional character of the zone, the values of the subject site and the architectural value of the existing building on it, and the proposed removal and redevelopment of the site in the context of the street and its values. As a consequence of Auckland City’s district plan change 163 the impact on residential 1 activity and the status of Ore 1940 dwellings within that zone has meant that proposed development of sites, additions and alterations of the buildings, or proposed demolition or removal of Ore 1940 buildings is considered a restricted discretionary activity subject to a number of particular criteria. Archifact architecture conservation ltd have been involved with guiding the building owners through numerous work stages including completing a heritage assessment for the deposit achieving the approval of a retrospective Resource Consent for previously completed building works and, architectural design and documentation work providing rooftop additions for outdoor living.
The space the architect designs is defined by the building internally and buildings or buildings and site externally. Archifact architecture conservation ltd was commissioned to yield an objective opinion to help an appeal of the development controls in Plan Change 4 and to establish a distraction in controls for heritage above and beyond character buildings. Archifact architecture conservation ltd’s responsibilities also included management of the tendering process, contract istration and site observation to ensure that works were performed in accordance with the recommendations identified in the existing conservation plan, and to conservation superior practice standards. The cottage and its site are compatible with an immediate group of dwellings that are a subset of more unpretentious workers cottages and bungalow type dwellings. The Impaired Government House precinct is of national historic significance and is the highest ranking historic deposit in Auckland. Shackleton’s Hut and its site is a deposit of international cultural heritage significance.
Archifact was engaged in this project as conservation architect occupied with a team of international conservation specialists in the preparation of a conservation plan and its implementation on site in Antarctica. Archifact architecture conservation ltd has been engaged in the conservation of Used Government House since 2004. Archifact architecture conservation ltd was commissioned to provide a thorough photographic record of the project during its Ore construction and demolition.
