The board is selected by Auckland Deaf Society Incorporated members at the Annual General Meeting which is usually held in March every year. The Board discusses issues which will benefit Auckland Deaf Society and its members. Auckland Deaf Society has given the Deaf community a cultural and social centre for over 75 years. Based on the earlier Christchurch Deaf Club, he envisaged Auckland Deaf Society as a place for Auckland’s Deaf Community to meet and share their experiences.
After first meeting in an old shop in Parnell Road, growing numbers saw us move to the Auckland Motorcycle club in 1938. More moves followed as membership continued to grow and rented premises fell through. Finally, in 1953, Friends of the Deaf was formed to raise funds for new clubrooms. After extensive fundraising involving both Deaf and hearing people, the Balmoral Road premises were purchased in 1954

The Sign Language Hub wishes to invite all families who would like to use New Zealand Sign Language to improve the way their family communicates to participate in a FREE 24 Week Course of Fresh Zealand Sign Language for Families. If you, your club, workplace or school is hosting an event, entering a team in a race, sporting event or tournament, use your event to elevate vital funds for Auckland Deaf Society. We also work hard to join Deaf people with the community, run social and cultural events, and help Deaf people receive the services they need. In addition Auckland Deaf Society makes a several contribution to the promotion and preservation of NZSL New Zealand Sign Language, an official language of Fresh Zealand by offering NZSL classes, and the opportunity for NZSL learners to socialism and polish their skills with native signers in a living language community environment. For us that means we can ensure Deaf people, their families, and those who are learning sign language everlasting have deposit to learn about Deaf culture and engage as a community. Deaf, hearing worn and hearing are welcomed in our fresh club room to confront fellow Aucklanders who use NZSL New Zealand Sign Language ! If you’re interested in learning New Zealand Sign Language, or building on what you already know, we also run a packed NZSL programmed for families and adults. We also offer the unique opportunity to learn New Zealand Sign Language here at the Auckland Deaf Society in Balmoral which has been the home of the Deaf community since 1937.
Auckland Deaf Society is heavily reliant on the generosity of ordinary Fresh Zealanders, like you, to fund our programmed. This year makes the 10th anniversary of sign language being recognized as an official language of Fresh Zealand. A lot of people don’t know there is a culture of the Deaf and see it only as a disability. I Mach E Asia Pacific Design Competition was held in the precede up to New Zealand Sign Language Week 9 15th May 2016 which aims to hoist awareness of the Deaf community and provide a platform for Deaf people to encourage their culture and language.
