What you should know about Auckland War Memorial Museum
The Museum tells the story of New Zealand, its place in the Pacific and its people. The Museum is a war memorial for the province of Auckland and holds one of New Zealand's top three heritage libraries. It has pre eminent M ori and Pacific collections, significant natural history resources and major social and military history collections, as well as decorative arts and pictorial collections. Staff, visiting experts, and our visitors share their experiences of events and exhibitions, and debate issues of relevance to our culture, city, country and Museum.
Auckland War Memorial Museum was built in 1929 and is considered one of New Zealand's finest heritage buildings. The Pacific Collection Access Project PCAP team is pleased to inform you that we have in place a recycling process for some of our materials. I'm Valerie, Storage Technician for PCAP, and my role involves coming up with custom storage solutions for each of our taonga. I use acid free paper, approved polyethylene foam, archival boxes, and cotton tape as these are all recommended archival materials that are designed to limit any deterioration of museum objects.
We are tackling this challenge by reusing materials as much as possible to be environmental and cost friendly. Passionate about Pacific culture, she joined the Pacific Collection Access Project as Storage Technician in March 2016
Performers from our M Fri Cultural Experience will take you on a guided tour of our exquisite M Fri gallery. For those people with the time and the will to learn and share, there are unique volunteering opportunities available at Auckland Museum.
