What you should know about JASMAX
This shared belief unites our 260 staff, and it’s evident across all the work we do from architecture, masterplanning, interior design, landscape architecture, building conservation, urban design and environmentally sustainable design. Our values help to shape our unique culture, which is evident in each and every project we undertake and through the strong relationships that we build. That’s why we have offices in Auckland, Christchurch, Tauranga and Wellington so that we can facilitate the kind of robust discussion required to design solutions of real relevance, wherever our clients may be. Our depth and breadth of design experience is unique in New Zealand, with our work spanning civic and community, commercial, education, hospitality, transport, healthcare, retail, residential, and sports and recreation projects. In the 50 years we’ve been operating, we have completed a vast range of high profile, award winning projects.
The oldest and largest of these, JASMaD, was formed in 1963, while the younger Bossley Cheshire and Gibbs Harris practices added design expertise and a growing reputation with commercial and civic projects. Under Ivan Mercep’s design leadership, the project cemented the future direction of Jasmax, developing into one of New Zealand’s largest architectural practices. Jasmax also spearheads work on the environmental and sustainable development fronts, as evidenced by winning the inaugural EECA Property Council Energy Award. The continuing process of adding new staff, all of whom bring new ideas and energy,has enabled the current Jasmax team to carry on the innovative and entrepreneurial zeal of their predecessors.

Jasmax are New Zealand industry leaders in sustainability and have successfully delivered many innovative and high performing projects within attainable budgets. Our commitment to sustainability is founded in deep industry connections and a long history supporting the green shift, such as the New Zealand Green Building Council and piloting Green Star, as well as Living Future New Zealand to pilot the Living Building Challenge in New Zealand. Jasmax has a strong Environmental Management System JEMs which is externally audited and certified to ISO14001 to minimise our environmental impacts, through worm farming, carbon accounting and promoting electric bikes. We have Green Star accredited professionals in house and 290 passionate designers who want to see a greener, caring and positive world.
Jasmax designed New Zealand’s first Living Building Challenge project, award winning building Te Uru Taumatua for T hoe, which offsets its carbon, land and equity impacts on day one, avoids toxic chemicals and generates its own renewable energy. We continue to research, learn, and challenge assumptions and ourselves, to deliver innovative, beautiful, sustainable and economically viable designs for our clients. We educate ourselves, our community and partners to deliver a sustainable future
