Laura Fergusson Trust Incorporated began its life over 45 years ago, when a progressive group of people, led by Lady Laura Fergusson, wife of the then Governor General, Sir Bernard Fergusson and Lady Mary Caughey became concerned at the lack of appropriate residential facilities for disabled people. This was the first facility in New Zealand to cater for the residential needs of the disabled community. Over the years Laura Fergusson’s services and facilities have been progressively developed to meet the needs of the disabled community, their families and the funding bodies within the health and disability sector. The original concept of providing a solution to the residential problems of disabled people has evolved and today Laura Fergusson focuses on providing expert rehabilitation services through a comprehensive team of specialists managed by a professional executive team.
LFR is committed to working collaboratively with our clients, their families and its funders to build expertise in specialised rehabilitation and to further develop our reputation as experts in rehabilitation. We acknowledge that these goals are enabled by strong partnerships within the health and disability sector that meet current needs whilst anticipating future demands and sustainable options. He has been an elected member of the Board of the Laura Fergusson Trust since 1997. Chris was a founding Trustee of the Joyce Fisher Endowment Fund and appointed Chairman in November 2006.
He is also currently a member of the New Zealand Government’s Rehabilitation Services Review Board. He has founded a number of companies both in the medical and non medical fields and has been appointed to several Boards, serving as Director and Chairman. Simon is Chairman of the Quality and Risk Committee and was appointed a Trustee of the Joyce Fisher Endowment Fund in 2008. A graduate of the University of Auckland, Janine has held senior Human Resources roles in national professional services firms.
Jo serves on the Board as the representative of the Laura Fergusson Women’s Committee which she joined in 2001. After working in private legal practice for 6 years he moved to a large financial institution where he worked briefly as in house legal counsel and then moved into front line banking. John has been on the Board for the past 15 years and serves on the Finance and Asset Committee. Shelley has been a member of the Board since 2003 and serves on the Quality and Risk Committee.
Shelley’s personal experience of injury and her work in sport and rehabilitation provide her with a unique insight into the work of the Trust. John brings his commercial knowledge as the owner and operator of a small business and his personal experience of disability to the Board. Rob has a distinguished career in Local Government in Parks, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Conservation Land Management and Community Development, both in NZ and overseas, in CEO, President and Director roles. Lady Joyce Fisher soon joined Lady Fergusson and Lady Caughey and together they named the Laura Fergusson Trust as their special charity.
The vision and generosity of our patrons along with our extended support network has allowed us to continue to support ground breaking research and develop services that meet the needs of both our clients and the funding bodies within the health and disability sector. Laura Fergusson rehabilitation continues today to deliver high quality clinical care and vital community programmes to the thousands of New Zealanders who are affected by stroke, brain injury, physical disability and deteriorating conditions such as Huntington’s Disease, MS and Parkinson’s Disease. It was a privilege to be asked by the Laura Fergusson Trust to give my name to the establishment of the Joyce Fisher Endowment Fund . As a founding member of the Trust, I have dedicated my life to supporting the Trust in its development of services and facilities
