Maxim Institute is an independent think tank, working to promote the dignity of every person in New Zealand characterised by freedom, justice, and compassion. Alex leads the work and mission of Maxim Institute, representing our work in public, and speaking and writing about public leadership a topic he studied during his time as a Visiting Fellow at the McDonald Centre at Oxford University in Trinity Term 2016. His previous study includes a Master of Laws from Cambridge University and degrees in law and science from the University of Auckland. Joining Maxim Institute after completing a Master’s in Public Policy from the Crawford School of Economics and Government at ANU, he is now working on a multi year, multi level research project on poverty in New Zealand.
Julian works on our economics project, primarily examining regional development in New Zealand. With a Master’s in Social Science from Waikato University, Julian brings a depth of experience from his time working as a senior policy analyst for the Department of Labour, where he focused on labour market dynamics, minimum wage and employment legislation, regional development, business dynamics, and immigration. As Chief Operating Officer, Joanne drives our work programme and oversees our human resources needs. Alongside her Bachelor of Education and Diploma of Business, Joanne brings a wealth of experience from previous roles in large scale event management and the education sector.
Alongside a Bachelor of Commerce from University of Canterbury, he brings a passion for politics, and years of experience in communications and community work. With a degree in Communications from Massey University, and over 5 years of experience in events, communications, and marketing in the non profit and public sector, Ella creates the space and context for people to engage with the ideas we care about. Amanda oversees the finances of Maxim Institute, ensuring our commitment to high standards of integrity and transparency as a charitable trust. She brings a depth of experience from nine years in the not for profit sector, as well as six years working for Deloitte after completing her Bachelor of Management Studies at the University of Waikato and qualification as a Chartered Accountant.
