Wai West Horticulture Ltd Nelson We grow, prune, thin and pick quality fruit in the Nelson region. The Waimea Plains at the top of the South Island is our base, just south of Nelson City. The region enjoys the most sunshine in New Zealand with over 2500 hours per year. We have an ambition to grow all of our produce on a sustainable basis and are actively involved in the reduction of pesticides through the better management practices.
We own, lease or manage over 200 hectares 500 acres of orchards growing apples, berryfruit and kiwifruit. Along with our orchards we have investments in post harvest facilities, packing and storing fruit. Although we work on a large scale, we endeavour to create a family atmosphere. The pack house starts at 8pm and operates until all fruit is full about 4am. Today the area is relatively static with much of the production grown by a few large growers.
