What you should know about working well
While we are not a counselling or clinical service, our Resource Information Service can help point you the right direction to find information on what mental illnesses and their symptoms are and how to help someone who is experiencing those symptoms. Also remember that good physical health helps promote good mental health so it’s important that your loved one gets a checkup with their GP. One of those things is learning about the Five Ways to Wellbeing , others you will find on throughout this website and especially on our Looking after yourself and your family page. The best thing you can do is talk to people you trust about how you’re feeling and ask for help when you need it. If you have support for yourself it also makes it easier to assist others, your health and wellbeing are important too. It supports family and whanau to provide the best possible quality of life and recovery to their loved one who has a mental illness, and helps family members with their own self care. Supporting Families promotes the rights and needs of individuals affected by mental illness and their families, and offers free information, education and support groups.

The Mental Health Foundation's vision is for a society where all people flourish. We take a holistic approach to mental health, promoting what we know makes and keeps people mentally well. We provide free information and training, and advocate for policies and services that support people with experience of mental illness, and also their families wh nau and friends.
Te Tiriti o Waitangi and The Ottawa Charter are the core documents from which our principles and values are based, and the board is committed to directing our work to reflect this. Board representatives also come from a wide geographical reach, covering urban and rural, metropolitan and provincial areas. People who work for the MHF do so within three offices nationwide, in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, and some work from their home offices. Auckland is the national office, where our overarching services are based the executive team, istration, finance, fundraising and communications.
This office is also home to our Information Service, the northern region mental health promotion team and the project managers for Like Minds, Like Mine and our suicide prevention work. Mauri t refers to stability and a sense of space for this energy, and in this context covers both communities and individuals. Mauri ora refers to the unleashing of this energy to actively support and create wellbeing. This korero is a constant reminder to the MHF of our commitment to actively supporting individuals and communities to flourish through the unleashing of positive energy and strategies to affect wellbeing
