In continuance with our ode to women who have played a role in shaping technology as we know it, PGi would like to take a moment to honor Dr. Hoover, born in 1926, is an American mathematician who is noted for making key contributions to the system architecture of the computerized telephone switching method, developed by Bell Labs. At the time, Hoover was one of the five percent of women earning Ph. ’s in mathematics in the 1950s. Hoover left her position as a professor in 1954 to marry her husband, who has taken a job at Bell Telephone Laboratories in New Jersey now known as Nokia Bell Labs . She also was awarded the Wellesley College Alumni Achievement Award in 1990 to recognize the accomplishments of her career. March is Women’s History Month and we wanted to take a moment to honor some of the innovative women who have played a role in shaping technology and the telecommunications industry as we know it. All throughout March, we will be honoring several influential women in technology who pioneered innovations that make our jobs and lives easier.
Jackson received her doctoral degree in physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, making her the first African American woman in the university’s history to receive a Ph. She was also the second African American woman in the United States to earn a Ph. Jackson is both the first woman and the first African American to serve in this position. She is an exemplary role model to all, and we have her to thank for many of the technologies that make it easier to communicate and collaborate in the workplace. As we continue our recognition of outstanding women in history, this week’s feature goes to Grace M. In 1931, Hopper began teaching at Vassar College while also continuing her education at Yale, where she became the first woman to earn Ph. First winner of the Computer Science Man of the Year award from Dara Processing Management Association in 1969. and first woman from any country to be made Distinguished Fellow of the British Computer Society in 1973.
